Bringing together arguably the world best stemware company, and some of the world’s best wines are the mission of Riedel Wine Bar & Cellar located in the heart of Bangkok at Gaysorn Shopping Center. An ideal spot for wine aficionados and novices alike, they offer an alluring mix of style and substance in an upscale environment. The main dining area is circular with a glass back wall, s-curve bank seating, two impressive wooden community dining tables, and an eye-catching amber colored geometric chandelier in the center of the room. The main attraction at Riedel is the “Wine Emotion” wine dispenser and preservation system which allows them to store over 40 red and white wines available by the glass. Adjacent to the Riedel Wine & Glass retail store, the dispenser keeps the wine at the optimal temperature and freshness level. All wine is served in the proper stemware to enhance the wine drinking experience and each guest can choose the size of the pour with either a 30ml “Tasting”, a 75ml “Half” or a 150ml “Full” size glass.
While wine is the main attraction, Riedel does have a full-service cocktail bar near the back and a delightful menu of Mediterranean inspired dishes that are mostly designed for sharing, as well as tapas, entrees, cheese and charcuterie. We started off with the fruity but acidic Tolpuddle Vineyard Chardonnay 2014 from Tasmania, Australia along with their popular 3-Selection Cheese & Cold Cuts Platter w/ Pickles, Bread & Condiments. We especially enjoyed the 42-month Aged Iberico Bellota Ham and the spicy Chorizo Cular which contrasted nicely with the creamy Brie de Meaux and flakey Tete de Moine cheese which is similar to a softer and milder parmesan. Another highlight is the Toasted Brioche w/ Homemade Chicken Liver Pate paired with a robust chardonnay such as the Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet, 2014 from Burgundy, France. Another crowd pleaser is the Polmard Beef Tartare w/ Parsley, Capers & Grain Mustard. This is an almost deconstructed version that highlights the quality of the beef with minimal seasoning that you can adjust to your personal taste. It’s best enjoyed with Whole Wheat Sourdough Bread which is served warm and toasted, and a medium bodied red wine such as the Felton Road Bannockburn Pinot Noir, 2014 from Central Otago, New Zealand. For a main course try the succulent Iberico Pork Pluma which is served a blushing pink with a spicy Nam Jim Jaew sauce along with some delectable side dishes such as Asparagus, Spinach & Black Garlic or the popular Truffle Mashed Potato. If you prefer something lighter opt for a side order of Almond Broccoli w/ Lemon & Chili along with the Grilled Seabass w/ Carrot Pureé and a refreshing glass of Weingut Keller 'Von der Fels', Riesling ,2016 from Germany. Riedel caters to the after work crowd and is perfect for couples and small groups as they boast a private dining room as well as a large outside terrace. You will also enjoy live jazz or a DJ most evenings in addition to monthly events, wine classes and workshops which are heavily promoted on their Facebook page.
