Take everything you think you know about a typical cigar bar, stand it on its head, and then add a multitude of dining, drinking and entertainment options, and you start to get an idea of what Whisgars is all about. Although they have several venues in Bangkok, we visited the flagship location on Sukhumvit soi 23. It’s the ultimate hangout with a bit of something for everyone, even if you are not a cigar aficionado. Guests will find an outside craft beer garden, a wine bar, and a Mexican Cantina onsite, in addition to the main cigar lounge which is the heart and soul of the complex. Whisgars never forgets the essential premise of the bar, and they are serious about their selection of cigars and spirits. They boast over 130 labels of the finest whiskies and have more than 30 premium hand rolled cigars including purveyors from Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic and Honduras in their walk-in humidor. As a way to differentiate themselves from their competition, they do not sell Cuban cigars, but instead introduce guests to high quality options that may not be as popular, but just as alluring as their Cuban counterparts. “We want to turn people on to something new, we’re are all about whisky, cigars and so much more”, stated General Manager Brian Laudico. There are two lounge areas on two separate levels complete with chocolate colored leather chairs and a dark palate of black and muted grey with stone and wood accents throughout. There is a laid back and easy going atmosphere that gets taken up a notch every Wednesday and Friday when they have live jazz from 9pm - midnight. When it comes to the cigars, Whisgars does not disappoint, I recommend the robust and smooth Perdomo 10th Anniversary Champagne Noir Robusto from Dominica paired with a Balvenie 17 year old single malt scotch on the rocks. Another great cigar is the award winning Bespoke Basilica C #3 from Dominica or the popular Gurkha Ghost Shadow from Nicaragua both of which go well with the Glenfiddich 15 year old single malt scotch. They also have an amazing list of very formidable cocktails that were designed to appeal to cigar smokers. They additionally have plenty of tasty snacks including classic Thai dishes, pizza and burgers, but the real standouts are the succulent Wagyu Beef Brisket, and the rich and juicy Carnitas Taco and homemade Guacamole & Chips. Without a doubt Whisgars is the premier spot for enjoying the best of cigars and fine spirits and whiling away the hours in an unpretentious and playful way.
