summary : An upscale deli/cafe that is part of an international chain serving gourmet drinks and eats in a trendy mall setting.

Dean & DeLuca is a famous delicatessen/grocery chain serving a carefully selected range of epicurean ingredients that was established in New York City in 1977. After establishing itself in US, it spread via licensing agreements to Asia and the Middle East, including Bangkok. The EmQuartier manifestation, which also serves food and drinks that can be consumed in-house or taken away, is extremely popular with shoppers seeking a place to recharge themselves during shopping at EmQuartier.

The outlet is located near the Sukhumvit Soi 35 entrance to EmQuartier and just opposite the mall's snazzy Gourmet Market supermarket. Encased on all sides by glass, the design is a minimalist affair with the marble and stainless steel that are a Dean & DeLuca landmark. The emphasis in this outlet is food that guests can take away or consume at a variety of seating arrangements, including table/chairs and high tables with lofty stools.

The food served at Dean & DeLuca falls in the coffee shop/cafe category that is becoming so popular in Bangkok. Meaning you can expect breakfast items, salads, sandwiches, pizza, pasta, a few more elaborate items and some rich and decadent desserts. Although this is a chain, Dean & DeLuca makes a point of using local ingredients whenever they meet the company's high standards. There is also a goodly selection of drinks, including smoothies, New York-style sodas, smoothies, frappes, a wide-selection of coffees and beer, cider, wine and even champagne.

Quality and quality control are behind Dean & DeLuca's success story so everything you eat here is likely to be above average. We were present for breakfast and the All American Breakfast Griddle (395 baht) with Sloane's dry-cured belly bacon, smoked thick cut ham, maple bacon sausage, organic eggs, duck fat fried potatoes and griddled pancake that I had was both ample and delicious. My dining partner oohed and ahhed over her Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict (445 baht) and was especially taken with the quality of the salmon. We were equally impressed with our drinks. I especially enjoyed the rich, full flavor and lack of bitterness in my cup of Americano.

Great at all times of the day, Dean & DeLuca brings a touch of class to eating, drinking and snacking while at EmQuartier.
